What Makes It Awesome

Don Bosco Ashalayam Handicrafts shop on Mirza Ghalib Street, a store hiding in the open, stocks various products, perfect to decorate your home or gift them to your loved ones. And these are all handmade by the underprivileged children of the foundation.

As you open the door and take the stairs, you will spot wall hangings on both sides -- paintings of village landscape and cattle -- exuding a rustic setting. On climbing up, you'll enter a world of absolute simplicity where you'll come across key rings, candles, candle stands and cards, among other things. The store was closed for three years and reopened only in January 2019. And we are relieved that it did! You'll also find beautiful wall hangings and statuettes.

The children here have been trained in book binding, welding, pottery and stitch work. Check out wooden and clay showpieces, imitating tribal and rural men, perfect to add a rustic charm to your casa. You can also go for the simple yet detailed metal candle stands starting from as low as INR 120. The wooden showpieces start from INR 70!

Browse their jute and cloth bags, mobile covers, travel pouches and pencil boxes. The person at the store even mentioned that a lot of foreigners drop in to buy these handy products. Do you suddenly hear your inner globetrotter?

Pro-Tip

You can also go for their hand-drawn, hand-painted and cloth-based cards, painted with scenery and figurines. These start from INR 30 and go up to INR 100.
