Kolkata’s iconic bakeries Nahoum’s, Saldanhas and Flurys have already stocked up on their annual Easter Eggs and you need to get your hands on them.
Easter Egg-citement: These Iconic Kolkata Bakeries Have Already Started Selling Easter Eggs
Ten-Second Takeaway
Saldanha Bakery
Saldanha’s are cooking up a storm this Spring with their range of Easter eggs. This year they’re levelling up their game — they have not just eggs but also the cutest Easter-themed cupcakes, French macarons, marzipan and chocolate figures in the prettiest pastel shades. The Easter treats start at just INR 12. Pick up an entire Easter basket which has a selection of their Easter goodies starting at just INR 250. You can ask them to customise the cupcakes and macarons and choose what you want for your baskets. The little ones are sure to go gaga over these chocolate-y treats.
The hot cross buns and Good Friday buns come for INR 24 — loaves of fresh, moist, sweetened buns, perfect for a breakfast on the go or as an accompaniment with your evening tea.
They don’t have any outlet yet so you’ll have to call them up to place your order {it’s ideal to place an order, particularly if it’s a bulk order, at least 48 hours in advance. Find out more about Saldanhas here and keep yourself posted by liking their Facebook page.
Nahoum & Sons
Traditional baked goods and Nahoum’s go hand in hand. The pre-Independence New Market bakery does a range of Easter eggs {solid chocolate as well as hollow ones that are filled with marzipan treats}. Nahoum’s also does a traditional Hot Cross Bun: an individually portioned loaf of freshly baked bread, slightly sweeter than regular bread, with bits of dried fruit added to the dough, traditionally eaten on Easter Sunday.
You can also poke around in the back of the market {next to the shops selling party decorations}, where there are a row of old-school bakeries selling Kolkata-style cream rolls and classic patties, which also have cheaper Easter treats around this time.
Flurys
Flurys hasn’t yet stocked their shelves with the Easter goodies just yet but you only have to hold on a couple more days to get your hands on their Easter treats. Besides the regular chocolate eggs and Easter cookies, they also do a gorgeous toffee-like nougatine Easter egg. Hot cross buns, simnel cake, Easter pannetone and traditional Easter carrot cake are some of the unique treats you’ll only find at this iconic Park Street bakery around Easter time. They’ll start with their Easter goodies on March 24 but the good news is they will sell them well past Easter {right up to April 8!}
Anything Else?
If you can’t make it to either of these two legendary places {and we highly recommend you do!} you can also pick up Easter goodies liked iced cookies, nougat Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies and more from your regular bakeries {Cakes and Kookie Jar always have a good variety}.
So We’re Saying…
The stocks remain till Easter Sunday {which this year falls on April 1} and, if you’re lucky, the following Monday, so get your treats ASAP.
