David Cameron Had Vadas From This Fellow

Former British Prime Minister David Cameron made a stop at Chauhan Victoria Vada when he was on his way back from a long day of international negotiations. Owned and run by Anurag Chauhan, this cart got its name because it used to be stationed outside Victoria Memorial. Chauhan sells the simple fried daal vada at INR 30. You can even call to check if he’s around on 9007320966.

North Indian Food at INR 22

Diagonally opposite Vardaan market under a shady tree, you will find a crowd of office-goers huddled around a cart. That’s because the roadside vendor sells the most amazing North Indian vegetarian food and you can get an entire meal at just INR 22. There are always rotis and naans to choose from and you get served a selection of the vegetarian dishes they have on sale that day {the menu changes every day}. The daals {kaali dal especially} are warming and hearty; the paneer {which comes in either butter masala or palak variety} is buttery soft and creamy. A little inconvenient in the monsoons, but it’s perfect in the cooler months if you’re looking for a satisfying meal on a budget.

    Take A Stroll

Allen Garden on the corner of Camac Street and Park Street is home to the Kolkata Christmas Festival in the month of December. It’s a popular hangout and fitness spot for many residents of the area. It’s ideal in the evenings with its shady trees, ample benches and a small play zone area for children.
