After creating waves among the young folks of Delhi and B'lore, Echoes Cafe has finally arrived in Kolkata, and we are totally loving the look and feel of it, besides the new insights we picked up about non-verbal communication here.

What Makes It Awesome

With differently-abled service staff, a plush ambience and fusion India food, Echoes Cafe in Topsia is a spiffy place to hang and soak in its unique experience. Done up with a confluence of different decor styles, the grey industrial walls and lights complement the classy chequered black and white marble floor and the baroque furniture. Adding to the plush quotient are the retro-style little chandeliers, the huge water fountain that sits centre to the space and the curious wall art. All in all, Echoes have kept up to their vintage classy look like they have in their cafes in Delhi and B'lore.

What makes Echoes stand out is its service staff - all of them are speech and hearing impaired and the whole cafe is designed accordingly. If you need to call a waiter, there’s a switch above each table, that lights a bulb with your table number on it up. There are cards that say ‘Water’, ‘Bill’, ‘Fork’, and other basic things that diners are likely to ask for. Everything on the menu has a code, which you can then write down on a notepad to place your order. The whole staff is highly trained and it’s a lovely personalised experience. There is a chance you’ll want to learn sign language once you have paid them a visit.

Fusion food is no uncommon thing, but hit up here and you can try some really delicious ones. Tandoori momos to golgappa platters and even regulars like chilli garlic noodles, classic fish and chips and butter chicken thali - the menu is exhaustive and varied. A must-try though are the various dabbas and tiffin boxes that will definitely take you back to your school days.

What's more incredible, you can also get your dose of potent drinks here. A relaxed cosy cafe in the mornings, this one has a complete turnaround by evening when it turns into a trendy cool spot for the party folks to hang.

What Could Be Better

We really have nothing to complain about, except to warn you not to hit up here for a private romantic date in the evening. It becomes a total party hotspot.

Pro-Tip

Don't keep going around in circles around Topsia. This one is located on the 6th floor of Haute Street Corporate Park Estate which stands just opposite the Porsche showroom.
