What Is It?

Did you know India hosts its own International Cherry Blossoms Festival in November?

A couple of years back, the government of Meghalaya planted thousands of cherry blossoms around the capital. Yes, the festival this year will be hosted in the beautiful city of the Northeast Shillong from Wednesday, November 14, 2018, to Saturday, November 17, 2018. Generally, the festival takes place for about a week starting as early as 10:30 am and here is what you will experience:

Food festival:
You can try the local delicacies of the Northeast which is offered at the festival. From pork chops to delicious noodles and fried rice, you will get everything on the ground.

Wine festival:
You will also get to savour the best wine available in many interesting flavours. I tried the one with dates at the festival. The best part of buying wine here is that you get to taste it before you buy. Isn't that great?

Live band performances:
Northeast is famous for its rock music, and you can witness this while attending the festival.

DJ nights:
Grooving in a disc is cliche, so here you get a chance to dance to the beat of some great DJs in an open ground and mingle with the locals. It's an extraordinary experience altogether.

Apart from the above events, they also host events like fashion shows, archery competitions, traditional dances, and bikers stunts, etc. All these activities are hosted in various parts of the city such as Polo ground, Ward Lake, and the JLN Stadium.

Getting there:
Guwahati Airport is the closest one to Shillong. There is also one small airport at Umroi, about 35 km from Shillong, it has fewer flight options as opposed to the Guwahati Airport. Guwahati Railway Station is also well-connected to almost all parts of the country.
