Ray, The Illustrator
The Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival {AKLF} is kicking off tomorrow with an event that’s a must-attend, folks. We all know that Satyajit Ray’s talent went beyond being an author and a director. He is credited with not only developing new typeface but is also a genius illustrator and designer. This session will have renowned Ray scholar Debasis Mukhopadhyay speak about the maestro’s cover designs. Debasis is somewhat of an authority on Bengali book cover designs and was touted by Ray himself as a ‘compendium’ of his works.
Award-winning photographer and visual artist Dayanita Singh will also be there to share her perspectives on Ray and visual art.
Anything Else?
With the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral as the backdrop, this event will also announce the shortlist for the Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize {a reminder that designers and illustrators are as important as authors!}.
