Love twinkling lights in the night sky? You don’t have to wait till next Pujo to enjoy them — take a drive down these roads to enjoy the lit season.
Kolkata Is Lit: Here's Where You Can See Festive Lighting In The City
Ten-Second Takeaway
Park Street
Thanks to the Kolkata Christmas Festival, there are lights running the length of Park Street. Drive down the road and marvel at the glorious arches that engulf the road. The right and left flanks have Christmas scenes depicted — giant Santa Claus and detailed nativity scenes included. We especially love the starry waterfall-light effect at the entrance of Allen Park.
You’ll get another taste of KCF along the stretch of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Elgin Road Stretch
The Elgin Road stretch is also decked out for the season. Begin your drive near Sharma dhaba and the lights span all the way to the Sarat Bose Road crossing. Bells and floral designs arch the road. Take a look on the left just before the Lee road crossing and you’ll see an oddly familiar silhoutte lit up {go see for yourself, we’re not going to tell you who it is!}.
Bow Barracks
The Barracks is always lit this time of year! With fairy lights hanging across the road from the flanking houses, the entire road was flooded with the faint light from the tiny bulbs. It’s truly simple and magical.
Monkey Bar
Monkey Bar is really stepping up their lighting game this year. The main area has hanging lit reindeer {yes reindeer!} followed by Santa’s sleigh and it’s so beautiful it’ll be all over your Instagram. The outdoor smoking area also has pretty lights hanging which sets the mood with the cool winter breeze.
Acropolis Mall
Not quite qualifying as Christmas lighting, but still — you must check out the huge, lit-up, wire-frame reindeer in front of Acropolis Mall. It’s become a fave selfie spot for Kolkata people.
