Haven’t got tickets yet? There are still a couple up for grabs although you will have to pay full price. You can buy tickets online here. Prices start at just INR 80 and go up to INR 800. Each ticket is for two games – the 5 pm one followed by the 8 pm one. Hurry – there are only a handful left!
Jerseys
The 450 shops of Maidan Market have been gearing up for the football season like never before. Full to the brim with jerseys from every country, depending on how good your bargaining skills are, you can pick these up for dirt cheap prices. The shops even accept PayTM if you don’t want to carry cash into the crowds.
Salt Lake Stadium 2.0
The new and improved Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium can now seat 85,000 fans. Kolkata Police claim that the stadium even when filled to capacity can be evacuated in 8 minutes flat. A detailed evacuation plan has been drawn out given the numerous recent emergency situations across the world. You won’t be allowed to carry anything besides your phone and a small ladies purse inside the stadium, so don’t go armed with food packets and water bottles because you will have to leave them outside.
How To Get There
The West Bengal Transport Corporation is making your life a whole lot easier {and cheaper!}. Around 600 buses, including 430 air-conditioned ones, are on duty for the FIFA Under-17 World cup matches, which will be running from different parts of the city to the stadium on match days. Hop on the shuttle service which will run from Ultadanga, Karunamoyee and Milan Mela, especially for spectators. The charge is just INR 10 and the service will run every two to five minutes so you won’t even have to wait.
Free Parking!
Don’t want to hop on a bus but plan to drive your own car? Parking is no longer an issue. On all six of the match days, free car parking space will be available around the time the matches are being played. There are designated ‘Free Parking’ and ‘No Parking’ areas so be careful to park in the right spot. You can find out which areas you can use here.
Not A Fan
Not a football fan? You may want to stay away from the stadium area on October 11th {Wednesday}, 14th {Saturday}, 17th {Tuesday}, 22nd {Sunday} and 28th {Saturday} – they are all match days so the roads are sure to be choc-a-block full of fans flocking to the stadium.
