The week has just begun, and we are already chalking out plans to get the weekend sorted. If you are looking for some cultural revitalisation, then Centre Stage Creation’s three-day Sabhagar Theatre Festival will be a perfect fit. Head to the GD Birla Sabhagar this weekend {starting from Friday evening, of course} for a good dose of social commentary, cultural activism, gender politics and some hearty laughter.

What Is It?
Who Is It For?
If you are a theatre nerd then it’s obviously a must-go for you. From ace theatre director Bratya Basu’s production to a play that won the Laadli Awards in 2017 {Shikhandi}, this festival is packed with powerful plays and brilliant performances. If you enjoy cultural programmes with a good bite of social and political commentary served with a generous dollop of tongue-in- cheek humour and wit, this should definitely be on your weekend agenda.
Why Should I Go For It?
When the who’s who of the theatre world are on stage talking about social issues like communal prejudice, legal malpractices, gender identity and rights, it would be criminal to give it a miss. While Bratya Basu’s production 17th July, set in the aftermath of the Godhra incident, stirs up a great political conversation, Faezeh Jalali’s celebrated play Shikhandi questions social mores and rigid gender stereotypes.
If comic relief is what you are looking for, then pick up tickets for Dubai-based comedian Nitin Mirani {aka Mr Komic Sutra} who has performed with the likes of Eddie Griffin and Trevor Noah.
