What's Happening: There's a world of delectable vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes in Tamil Nadu. Get a taste of it at Vintage Virundhu, a Tamil Spice Trail at Eden Pavillion, ITC Sonar. Take a trip down memory lane as Praveen Anand, executive chef of South-Indian cuisines at ITC Hotels, brings to you forgotten gems from Tamil cuisine at Vintage Virundhu. In this specially curated food festival chef Anand brings in dinner platters from regions and communities like Chettinadu, Kongunadu, Modaliar, Thanjavur Maratha and Tamil Sahibu (Tamil Muslims). These community cuisine thalis are only available on request subject to prior reservation at Eden Pavillion. The meal begins with buttermilk and Kosambri (soaked moong with cucumber, chillies and lemon). Then there's the Beetroot Kola (spiced beetroot balls) and Sundiah (deep-fried lamb balls) before trying the Thair Vadai (dahi vada). The Puli Madula Sadam (rice tossed with pomegranate and tamarind) blended perfectly with the Vella Kurmah (cauliflower and double bean in a coconut curry with spices). Try the Veechu Paratha (much like the Malabar paratha) with Kozhi Uppukari (chicken tossed in ginger juice, shallots, garlic and chillies) and Kari Kozhambu (mutton curry). Keep some space for Aadikumayam (halwa made of roasted lentils and rice) and Vattlappam (custard with tender coconut) to help you end your meal on a sweet note. These rare recipes have been retrieved and researched by chef Anand over 30 years of his experience as a chef. Price: INR 2,000, all inclusive, but some of these special items will be available as a part of Eden Pavillion's dinner buffet menu.
