Fusion Fun
Always squabbling with the squad over whether to get Indian or to grab Italian for dinner? Say goodbye to arguments and hello to fusion food. Hakuna Matata’s brand new fusion menu to celebrate its second birthday {it was the first all-vegetarian restaurant on Park Street!} is all about taking the best of Indian food and combining it with what makes international cuisines exciting.
Guacamole Puchhka? You heard it here first! Bite-sized bits of crispy fried puchka shells stuffed with traditional filling, served with tangy paani but topped with guacamole. The guac is made fresh in-house.
Served in shot glasses, the Mini Baked Crostini gives you all the delight of the crunch of the crostini, the smoothness of the laal saag filling and a surprise hit of date jam elevates the dish to the next level. Lovers of chaat, try the Acapulco Tostada for an explosion of chatpata flavours.
We love the Manchurian Vada Pav – each vada pav is stacked so high you can barely eat it in one bite {the mess is well worth it though!}. With an Indo-Chinese veg Manchurian ball stuffed between the vada pav, they even add a green chilli to give it an authentic Mumbai roadside feel. We saved the best for last – the Baked Polenta Cake. Enough to serve two, the cake is the perfectly smooth texture of potato-ey pillow-y indulgence that you won’t help but keep going back for seconds.
Double thumbs up to them for not using any artificial flavouring or MSG; they even make their own ketchup from scratch.
InstaGood
We love how every dish is so well thought out and comes served in its own unique way. The mini crostinis come in shot glasses, the Matata cooler comes in an actual carved watermelon rind and the Cherry Twist comes in a little cycle-holder.
If bonus points for presentation, you’ll be blown away by how Pinterest-y and fun the décor is. Based on Hakuna Matata’s theme of fun, adventure and travel, the décor is all about keeping it light and happy. You’ll love the Wish Tree on the wall near the staircase. Over the years, customers come and write their wishes on sticky notes and add it to the tree. The wall is now covered with hundreds {maybe 500 or more!} sticky notes which form the prettiest bright pink tree which is a perfect for a picture.
