What Makes It Awesome

Well, first of all, you should know that you will be wearing a brand that has a world-class team of professional athletes, and continues to produce outstanding skate and streetwear products. DC Shoes has paved the way for modern skate culture.

Look out for the sleek and minimalistic kicks, great options for anyone who loves skate style—specifically the look of skate shoes—but is tired of the Vans wave sweeping the fashion scene.

DC Shoes is a US brand that has been making street sportswear and gear since 1994 and are known for their top-quality range of footwear, clothing, and accessories. The shoes deserve a spot in your sneaker rotation.

Founded by Matt Howard, DC Shoes, under its parent organisation Quicksilver, have some 25 stores across the country. The move to Kolkata was quite slow, but over the last year or so, DC has seen a rise in its popularity and demand in this city {which so far has no skate parks – why?}. DC Shoes is somewhat of an action sports icon. They have their own teams in sports such as skateboarding, BMX, snow-boarding, surfing, and motocross.

Skateboards are approximately INR 5,000 onwards, skate shoes start from INR 3,000. You can also pick up T-shirts from INR 1,295, and jackets from INR 4,000.

What Could Be Better

While primarily a shoe store, DC has some state-of-the-art skateboards which arrive straight from the US. However, they could have had a bigger range of these.

Pro Tip

DC is working with Decathlon and Kolkata Skateboarders to nurture a community of skateboarders in the city. The person who manages the store in Quest Mall is an avid skateboarder and says that when he moved here initially from Bangalore, he knew only 5 or 6 skateboarders in Kolkata, but since then the number has grown to over a hundred!
