Save this Saturday on your calendar folks because Indie Comix Fest is finally coming to Kolkata after travelling to other Indian cities. Indie Comix Fest is a platform that promotes comics as a form of self expression. If you're looking to meet up fantastic creators and avid readers then this fest is a must attend.
A volunteer-driven festival that has travelled across various cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, the Indie Comix Fest is for the true comic-head who loves the world of images and words. Hit up here to pick some fantastic comic books, zines and story posters, and meet some of the city's (and also the country's) popular and budding indie artists and creators.
There'll be around eleven different creators who'll be showcasing their works here. This could be your fantastic opportunity to buy these rare books and also pick their brains. You can meet Bharath Murthy of Vérité (a comics mag for adults), artists collective Shoebox Comics (they have amazing personal stories told with a touch of humour), 'Hing-lish' Bakarmax comics creator Sumit Kumar, NID graduate and illustrator Shreya Sen and her collection of comics Orangetoons, award-winning blogger Amartya Talukdar's with his graphic novel A Dialogue between Men's Rights Activist and Feminist, Kolkata-based graphic novelist Harsho Mohan Chattoraj and several more.
Self-published anthologies, serialised floppies, fold-out and screen-printed - there'll be comics in different formats and on a variety of themes like fascism in India, gender, mythology, Naxalbari movement, and even regular commonplace life.
Best of all, this is the perfect place for anyone who has a self published comic to meet new readers (who may just become your fans) and audience. Or you might just get to collaborate with other artists on a new comic idea, or just chill, have conversations and make new like-minded friends. Either way it is a win-win for all.
If you love to doodle and sketch and are looking for a platform to showcase your talent, check out their website. It offers a space to all independent comic book creators to sell their self-published creations. In order to be a participant at upcoming fests, you must have at least one comic in any language that they have created and published themselves.
