What Makes It Awesome

We came across Juin Mayne’s name at an exhibition and couldn’t stop gushing about her artwork.

A pottery and ceramics artist, Juin trained under Mansimran Singh at the Andretta Pottery Studio in Himachal Pradesh and has since then been creating her own artworks and selling them here. Her art is rooted in utilitarian pottery tradition because she believes aesthetics and functionality or utility should go hand in hand. Her creations are made by hand in simple yet unique and beautiful designs. Juin creates functional ceramics, mostly using stoneware clay but also works with terracotta and porcelain. At times, she uses wooden block prints to give some texture to her creations.

The collection includes soup bowls, tea cups, coffee mugs, trays, wash basins, ramen bowls,  jars, teapots, vases, plates, bowls, baking dishes, serving vessels, table lamps, jugs, jewellery holders, coasters, handi, serving spoons, flower pots, and more. The list just goes on! One of our favourites is the ceramic Barni Jar embossed with lotus motifs. It’s made of high-fire glazed stoneware with a creamy white and blue glazing. It’s perfect to store pickles, flour, rice, pulses, and grains. Another favourite is the set of two powder blue ramen bowls also made of high-fire glazed stoneware. We also loved the table lamps as well as this fruit bowl with drawings of leaves and glazing in wooden ash.

Juin takes orders for customisation. Just let her know your requirements and watch her create magic. She also conducts pottery and ceramics classes for adults once a week at her studio as well as workshops for children during their summer and winter breaks. So, if you want to learn, you know who to get in touch with.

Price range depends on the size and complexity of the work. The bowls start at INR 200 and go up to INR 2,000 while the coffee mugs start at INR 500. The table lamps are priced at around INR 3,000. The plates and trays are priced at INR 1,000 and upwards.
