What Is It?
We have seen kantha embroidery on a million things by now- mom’s sarees, shawls, cushion covers, handicrafts but how much do we really know about this house of art?
In fact, did you know that kantha embroidery is actually a truly Bengali style of embroidery and uses the ‘running’ stitch? In this exhibition by Birla Academy of Art and Culture and The Crafts Council of West Bengal, you will get to meet the rural kantha artisans in person and see live demonstrations of the embroidery.
What’s more, if you feel like taking something home, there’s also a sale from where you can buy authentic kantha embroidery products!
Who Is It For?
Everyone really. It’s not every day that you will get to meet rural artisans in person, see live demos of the textile and embroidery being done and even buy them on the spot!
Tell you what, if you’re racking your brains for the perfect Mother’s Day present, maybe a visit with Mom to this exhibition and a kantha stitch saree from here could be the perfect present?
Why Should I Go?
Apart from all the above reasons, there’s also a seminar on kantha embroidery on April 28 from 12 noon to 2pm at the Auditorium of Birla Academy of Art and Culture. Catch speakers from all around the world speaking on the theme of this textile industry.
Anything Else?
The exhibition is on till May 13 from 3pm to 8pm, every day except Mondays and May 1 (May Day).
