The Calcutta Tramways Corporation has introduced the first AC tram which will run on the Esplanade-Shyambazar route. The heritage tram number 5 will depart from the Esplanade Tram Depot. It won't pinch you much since the ticket is priced at INR 20. Unlike the old ones, the new AC trams have only one coach, and traverses through one of the oldest and busiest routes in the city. The coach can accommodate 32 passengers, running at a decent speed of 35 kmph. The new AC coach is already a hit with the people of the city, since it has received four times the footfall of the normal tram, we are told! Kolkatans go get a seat if you are travelling on that route!
