You were treated to some fabulous world cinema just a couple of months back with the Kolkata International Film Festival, now it's time for your bubs to enjoy a slice of the same. The much-awaited Kolkata International Children's Film Festival is back with their eighth edition, and you must totally take your tots for a treat.
This year the festival is screening more than 200 films in various theatres across Kolkata. Apart from Nandan I, II and III, Rabindra Sadan and Sisir Mancha, the festival will also screen films at Ahindra Mancha, Rabindra Tirtha, Rabindra Okakura Bhavan and Star Theatre. Iranian, French, German, Finnish, Mexican to Sri Lankan and Irish, this year the line up is a hefty one ranging from old classics to new releases.
Introduce your champs to Mrinal Sen's works with Ichchapuran. For a peek into the world outside mainstream media, help them catch films like The Skier (Iranian film that tell the story of a young skier who save a mountain goat from being sacrificed), Abulele (Israeli film about a young boy who befriends a mythical creature to deal with bullies and the grief of his brother's death), and Song of the Sea (Irish animated film about Celtic folk lore).
There will also be an exhibition on sci-fi at Gaganendra Pradarshanshala and another exhibition at Rabindra Okakura Bhavan on the evolution of camera. The special publication for this year are 'Goopi Gyne Bagha Byne 50’ edited by Sandip Ray and ‘Icche Danar Ora Uri’ — a compilation of personal anecdotes of film personalities, which will be launched at the fest.
