What Makes It Awesome?

The egg tart is a kind of custard tart found in Cantonese cuisine deriving from the English custard tart and Portuguese pastel de nata. The dish consists of an outer pastry crust filled with egg custard.

It has a funny history. The egg tart was invented by a department store for one of the "Weekly Special" pastry competitions in the early 20th century in Guangzhou, Guangdong province of South China.

Whatever might have been the history, these lard-based puff pastry crust with a filling similar to steamed egg pudding melts in my mouth giving me a heavenly feeling.
