The Kolkata Christmas Festival {also known as the Park Street Festival} is back and here are all the reasons you cannot miss out on this extravaganza.

It's Lit!

It’s literally the most lit thing in the city! The whole length of Park Street is decked out in fairy lights, tuni bulbs and Christmas-themed lighting. After the sun sets, the lights come on and it’s absolutely magical. The lights are already up so go check them out {they come on about post 6 pm} for an Insta-worthy view.

Rocking Around The {Giant} Christmas Tree

If you head to Allen Park {on the crossing of Camac Street and Park Street, you’ll notice a big {no, a giant} Christmas tree decked out in baubles, lights, snowflakes, and other decorations. Stand in front of it {if you can fight through the crowd} and take oyour fair share of festive photos.

Jingle All The Way

The Festival is known for it’s music — some of the most renowned Kolkatan performers hit the stage to belt out their Christmas tunes. Usha Uthup to Shane Hyrapiet, they’ve all been there. The evening also sees performances and choral presentations from the city’s best choirs — church groups, youth bands and more. Walk down any evening of the festival and witness festive performances.

'Tis The Season To Eat!

Christmas means food and if you want your share of Christmas goodies, there’s no better place than the Festival! The length of Park Street and Allen Park and lined with tens of food stalls serving up baked goods, homemade treats, warming snacks {momos included!} and more. You’ll get food that you won’t otherwise throughout the year — Christmas cake tops that list!

These Boots Are Meant For Walking

If you want the whole experience, hit the road on Christmas eve. Part of Park Street is cordoned off for pedestrians to walk down the road and enjoy the lights, fervour and festivities. Start at the Park Street metro station side making your way to the Camac Street crossing and end in Allen Park {where all the action happens}.

Besides food stalls, there are also vendors selling Christmassy accessories. Starting at juts INR 10 {you have to bargain!}, you’ll get reindeer ears, snowflake headbands and {the most popular} Santa caps!
