#WeekendWisdom: Join This Museum Walk & To Learn More About Bengal's Art & Folk Heritage

What's Happening

For the last few months we have been hearing that Kolkata's Gurusaday Museum is on the verge of closure. But thanks to community revivalist efforts, we are happy to report that the museum is still up and running. Have you been there yet? If the diverse folk art collection in the museum overwhelms you, then you must sign up for this upcoming museum walk. This special guided museum walk will be followed by a conversation on the significance of the Gurusaday Museum and its preservation of Bengal art and folk heritage. Take the hour-long free walk to know unknown facts about the artefacts there and listen to eminent speakers like Kalighat artist Kalam Patua, Dr Sayan Bhattacharya of the Indian Museum and other learned folk talk about the museum collection.

How's The Venue

Set up by Bengali folklorist Gurusaday Dutt, this museum was modelled on the Bratachari school of thought whose aim is to preserve Bengal’s culture and tradition. The museum houses art objects from the remotest corners of undivided Bengal — Kalighat paintings, patachitras, kanthas, terracotta panels, stone sculptures, wooden carvings, dolls, toys.
