What Makes It Awesome
The entire Lake Road stretch houses an array of boutiques and clothing stores, and Shimmer is a popular name in south Kolkata when it comes to women's wear. Locals prefer this shop for its small but affordable range of clothes. The store is nothing fancy but stocks various ethnic and Indo-western wear. You can choose to buy them for regular wear or occasional purposes.
We really liked their blue kaftaan in Georgette with abstract prints in black. They also keep palazzos and specially loved a muslin one in Fuchsia. Your monotony with the same old cotton prints can be broken with their chikankari collection, which is perfect for every season. Pair the chikankari kurtis with either their palazzos or keep it simple with solid coloured leggings.
One striking piece, worth noticing, was a black gown with intricate machine embroidery on Georgette silk. You can easily wear the gown for a royal wedding. Their gowns start from INR 3,000. Also, check out their regular wear kurtis in geometric prints, large checks and stripes, starting from INR 1,000.
What Could Be Better
The store had a very limited stock when we visited. We really hope they expand their collection soon.

The tailors are working in a space attached right beside the store. Get your clothes custom-made, but be sure to place it 15 days prior to when you need it.
