What is it?
Over two decades ago when they opened, SPE redefined and still continues to define the city’s live music scene. Most Kolkatans have plenty of Someplace Else moments – be it having their first beer or enjoying live music, where the city’s top bands and even bands or musicians from across India performed.
Bands like Hip Pocket, Skinny Alley, Parikrama, Indian Ocean, Krozzwindz, Underground Authority and many others have kept SPE alive and kicking. Ehsaan Noorani, Amyt Datta and Anjan Dutt have been regular performers too.

The first band to play at SPE was Hip Pocket in the year 1997. While shooting for Barfi in Kolkata, director Anurag Basu got Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz over and they danced and sang along while Crystal Grass played. A special gig with Parikrama and Saif Ali Khan was put together with only three hours notice. Grammy winner Mumford & Sons, a British band, has also performed at SPE.
Anything Else
Tonight, there will be a cake cutting ceremony at SPE as they celebrate their 23rd anniversary. PlanB and Span will be performing live. There’s champagne too! So head over!
