After five long years, Sonagachi’s {Asia’s biggest red-light area} sex workers have setup their own 8′ x 20′ marquee and idol outside the Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Samiti {DMSS} clinic, with a budget of about 4 lakh. Earlier, there was a restriction that they could only celebrate in a small community hall, which the high court finally overruled. Sex workers in Bishnupur, Basirhat, Coach Behar and Kidderpore will also be organising smaller festivities this year. And Ashtami blog will be distributed in all these pockets.
