Ladies and gentlemen! Say hello to the newest kid on the block - Symi Cafe, that has recently opened doors on Dover Lane in Ballygunge.
Enjoy a little bit of Greece in Kolkata right here at Symi (Chilekotha shut down to give way to this cafe!). The super colourful exterior with white walls, potted plants and lots of windows in red, blue and yellow is sure to catch your eye. The interiors are a celebration of Symi, the Greek island, with multi-coloured patterns, artificial grass wall panels, vintage phone, lamp shades a wall clock and a traditional fan along with wooden structures to keep the Neo-classical element alive. There's a huge picture of Symi in the inside section that'll make you want to visit the island right away!
The food is a mix of Continental, Italian, Chinese and seafood dishes along with some munchies, appetisers and salads. Symi is known for its seafood, particularly shrimps, which is why the cafe's signature dishes contain the same - think shrimp pizza and zesty shrimp pasta. I basically loved pretty much everything I ate here but the Rustic Greek Salad has my heart (and I'm not a big fan of salads!). It's got mixed leaves, red onions, bell peppers, olives, cherry tomatoes and cucumber tossed in lemon vinegrette and topped with feta cheese.
Another must-try are the Greek-Style Chicken Skewers cooked in Mediterranean spices and Charcoal Smoked Chicken. Also, gorge on sandwiches, burgers, fish and chips, grilled fish and chicken, Shepherd's Pie and more. Coffee lover? Try the Irish and Vietnamese coffees - one won't be enough! Nutella gobbler? Then, the Nutella and Raspberry Crepes should be your jam. It's basically a Nutella stuffed crepe topped with raspberry compote and whipped cream.
