Is it a toy? Is it art? No one knows for sure. Self-confessed geeks {and otherwise}, if you love action figures, and replicas of your fave singers or actors, head to Smile in New Market {especially with Christmas approaching, you may get some perfect gift ideas}.

A Kolkata must-visit, Smile is a rewarding gem of a find filled with collectables ranging from Marvel, Potter, GoT and Star Wars characters all the way to Tintin and Super Mario. If you’re lucky, you can sneak a peek at the special edition toys they occasionally stock and take home a superhero.

We absolutely fell in love with these figures of all the main characters from the Tintin books {including Snowy with a huge bone!}. The set is for INR 4.500, but you can also buy just the blessed twins for INR 2,000.

A Tintin comic takes its automobiles very seriously indeed. If you are a Tintin fan, you’d know that many of the stories feature car chases.

We loved the collection of Tintin cars at Smile {INR 3,500+}. These are faithful recreations that reflect actual cars complete with characters sitting in them {they look like freeze frames from the comics}. Check out this one taken from the cover of Land Of Black Gold {with Thomson and Thompson being driven across the dessert, green hair flying in the wind}.

On an aside – Tintin creator Georges Remi {who wrote under the pen name Hergé – the French pronunciation of his initials reversed}, was an avid driver and a collector who peppered his work with an array of precisely-rendered cars spanning the 47 years during which he drew the books!

The place also has figurines of several legendary singers and actors like Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson et al. This one of music legend Bob Marley is highly detailed and life-like. The 7” scale figure {based on the classic Live at the Rainbow performance} comes for INR 1,800. You can create any pose as it can be twisted at the neck, shoulders, wrists, waist and ankles.

Or own this beautiful 1/4 scale statue of the late great Marilyn Monroe as she appeared in the iconic 1953 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Her alluring eyes and captivating posture are perfectly captured {INR 15,000}.

Smile has a terrific collection of Arkham villains like The Joker from the blockbuster video game Batman: Arkham Origins {INR 1,500}. The Harvey Dent figure is another favourite {INR 1.000}. The shop also had an almost life-size Joker for INR 10,000.

GoT fans can pick up figures of Grey Worm, faithful warrior to Daenerys, or Oberyn Martell {Prince Oberyn, also known as the Red Viper of Dorne} for INR 2,500 each. The perfectly detailed clothing makes them worth collecting.

Potterheads, rejoice. Smile has a range of characters from the books {if anything is out of stock, they can order it for you}. They also stock action figures from the Dragon Ball Z series,

We loved the adorable Lion King figures.

What could be better than two old-time faves coming together – Hot Wheels and the cartoon favourite from long ago that never dies, Scooby Doo! The famous mystery machine has come to life as a perfect replica in this Hot Wheels standard-size van modeled after the original Dodge.

This is part of Hot Wheels 1:64 scale replicas of iconic vehicles, immortalised in exclusive models for collectors. The series includes popular vehicles from properties like Batman, Back to the Future, Forza and Grand Turismo.

Robert Downey Jr fans will love this Iron Man figure {INR 4,000}. Or the perfectly posed Lady Deadpool {INR 3,500} – both from the Marvel universe.
