Well, pardon us for not discovering it earlier but now we have - Kolkata's only Hobbit-themed café in the bylanes of Golpark.
We all know that this particular stretch of south Kolkata is dotted by cafés but to miss out on such a place based on a pop culture as famous as the Hobbit, is truly a sin. But to atone for our sins, we obviously visited the Hobbit's Café situated near the rear side of Ramkrishna Mission Centre.
Keeping in tandem with the theme, the place is extremely quaint and cosy with space for just about 12-14 people. We had a smile on our faces upon seeing the entrance door in the style of a shire, and then straight ahead a wall mural of a signboard consisting of names of places like 'The Shire', 'Mordor', 'Mirkwood Forest', 'Rivendell', and more.
We started with a milkshake, viz., Aragorn's Oreo. This was followed by a chimichurri pork satay for starters. The marinated pork was topped with chimichurri dip and accompanied by a mint mayo dip. While waiting for the main course, we quietly admired the Tolkien middle-earth saga related wall murals and graffiti which included iconic characters like Gandalf, Bilbo Baggins and Gollum. Then came 'our precious' classic chicken stroganoff and grilled chicken. The grilled chicken is still stuck to our tastebuds. It's served with mashed potato, mushroom sauce, sauteed veggies and herbed rice.
To sum it up, whether you are a fan or not, you will have an amazing time here and spend hours chatting with your besties.
