Want Something Fun To Do? Put On Your Sherlock Cap At These Escape Games in Kolkata

Ten-Second Takeaway

Did you love The Crystal Maze? Have you always wanted to try your hand at sleuthing like Sherlock? You’ll have a ball trying to work your way out of a locked room in under an hour at these escape games.

Breakout

Here’s your brief: the Kohinoor diamond and other such ephemera are on show at our very own Victoria Museum (high time the Kohinoor came here, we say). The website thoughtfully adds it is “part of an initiative to promote art and tourism in India”. An “international company” has been tasked with securing the valuables. No, you are not heading that. You are the bad guy here – one of the “top Indian gangsters” who are contacted by a secret society – The Nine Unknown Men – to bring back the crown jewels to India. We say you think and act like Mr Bond, and it’s a wrap.

Cost: You have to book online. They have deals for family groups, birthday parties and corporates.

Mystery Rooms

They have a huge range of games to choose from. Perhaps you would like to be an elite member of a bomb squad in a game called The Hurt Locker where your team has to race against the clock to defuse a bomb and save lives. Or a wrongly convicted prisoner who tries to break out in Lockout – A Prison Break Challenge. Or if you’ve always wanted to be a detective and solve murder mysteries, try Cabin In The Woods. The last one sounds very much like an episode of the TV show Castle – you have to enter an occult forest to uncover the secret behind mysterious killings happening in the woods and save some people.

Cost (per person): On weekends (and public holidays): Mission for two is Rs 1000 per person, mission for 3 isRs 900, and mission for 4 and more is Rs 800. On weekdays: Mission for 2 isRs 900 per person, mission for 3 is Rs 800, mission for 4 is Rs 700, and mission for 5 and more is Rs 600.

Espionage

The games have been desi-fied here. In their murder game, you will be heading a detective agency hired to solve the murder mystery of – wait for it – a famous Bollywood actress, Shaina. But you better hurry as those vile murderers are trying to destroy all the evidence. Oh, and here’s a clue – Shaina was murdered right after she stepped into her vanity room after the day’s shoot. More juicy details on their website.

Cost (per person): Starts from INR 700 per person (if two are playing) and goes on to INR 500 if you come in a group of six.

#LBBTip

Dress for the part. That will make it more fun. And grab your trusted gang so you work in tandem. Be warned, you may just end up yelling at each other, as the clock ticks away.
