It’s International Women’s Day and we did a bit of scouting to find out the coolest events happening during this time. Because queens who stand up to patriarchy deserve to loosen up a little.

Make Merry (And Macaroons)

Celebrate Women’s Day with your favourite macaroons and desserts only at Yauatcha. We all know how popular Yauatcha is for its desserts and as part of Women’s Day celebrations, Yauatcha is all set to teach the art of dessert making through a masterclass on 13th March, from 4pm to 6pm. The Patisserie Head Chef Kaushik will take the participants through a step-by-step process and teach you how to make macaroons, and Yauatcha's Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse and special Honeycomb Ice Cream. The masterclass is priced at INR 1,288.

Abstract Is The Name Of The Game

Tribe Cafe in Golpark decided to go for the abstract this year on the occasion of Women's Day. There will be a freewheeling discussion on 3Rs - rethinking, reimagining and redefining. The event will be on 13th March, 6pm onward, where you can expect speakers such as theatre film artist and activist Ramanjit Kaur, social entrepreneur and jute revivalist Chaitali Das and artist Paramita Banerjee, among others.

Lighten Yourselves With Good Music

Lunachixx, an arts initiative dedicated to female entrepreneurs and artists, is going to host a Women's Day live music performance at The Doodle Room in Dover Terrace, 6pm onward. Whom to expect? Shireen and Rebecca. Shireen is a composer, producer and pianist, who uses a lot of instruments. Rebecca, after performing with a number of setups, is going solo for the time being. So let's pour in huge numbers to listen to these talented ladies. Entry is INR 100 only.

Appreciate Art

If you and your female bestie (or sister) breathe art, then you need to head to Experimenter on Hindustan Road. Friday, March 6 is the opening preview of Stone is a Forehead, artist Biraaj Dodiya's debut solo, from 6-8pm. A quick trivia: the title of the exhibition is a reference to ‘The Laid Out Body’ - a part of the poem 'Lament for Ignacio Sanchez Mejias' by Federico García Lorca commemorating the death of a friend. Pretty heavy stuff!

Put On Your Boxing Gloves

Learn how to land a punch, but only to protect yourself. This Women's Day, the Kickboxing Association of Bengal (KAB) is going to host a free self defence workshop for the women and girls of the city at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra on the morning of Women's Day from 8-11am. If you are a mother interested in getting your daughter into self defence lessons but not being able to convince her, this might be a step in the right direction.

Listen To A Meaningful Discussion

India Autism Center is going to organise a brilliant initiative, a talk on Intersectional feminism: Gender equality and disability inclusion. Taking place on Friday, March 6, 1pm onward, the discussion will throw light on gender equality for women under the spectrum of disability. The panel of the topic consists of Ms. Jeeja Ghosh, who is a disability rights researcher and activist and Dr. Sharmistha Chakraborti, who specialises in adult psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, geriatric problems and dementia.
