One of Kolkata's favourite momos chain, Wow Momo, has opened its sister Chinese outlet and it's called, guess what? Wow China! It already has eight outlets across the city and they have certainly announced their arrival with a bang.
We went to try out their food at the Park Street branch and did not come out disappointed at all. Spread over two floors (the upper one is more of a mezzanine one), the space is very well designed, with high ceilings, red walls and wok and frying pans stuck on the walls as part of the oriental decor and vibe.
We started off with the Indo-chilli chicken for starters which has the perfect amount of spice even for someone not used to hot and spicy food. Not a fan of chicken? Then you have to go for the chilli cheese stuffed mushroom. It's a helluva lot cheese to be consumed for one person, so make sure there's someone to help you out. Try out their stir fried chicken or veg spring rolls in case you want to keep it light. Seafood lovers can dig into their butter garlic fish and prawns in oyster sauce. This version of the butter garlic fish is not that oily and moist as you find in some places, and it's rather on the drier side.
Apart from the normal rice and noodles, all you health freaks can opt for whole wheat noodles or brown rice for a quick meal. And things ended on a very heavy note with their freak shake. We liked the fact that they presented the freak shake in a panda shaped bottle, served on a wooden plate, and the entire plate was a pond of chocolate sauce. We couldn't care less about how messy things got, and were rather busy devouring our freak shake.
