If you're a nature enthusiast or seeking an adventurous getaway, we've found something right up your alley. Grassland Safari, an initiative by the Pune Forest Department, invites you to a thrilling encounter with the untamed beauty of grasslands untouched by urban development, a buzzing ecosystem, and exciting wildlife encounters.
Only 60 km from Pune, the safari covers two zones — Kadbanwadi in Indapur District and Shirsuphal in Baramati district. Both are situated an hour away from each other so you can explore them in one day. The grasslands are home to numerous species like hyenas, jackals, chinkaras or Indian gazelles, the Bengal fox and the elusive Indian grey wolf. Both safari is also a perfect spot for bird watching. You can spot over 330 varieties like the rain quail, ashy-crowned sparrow lark, grey-necked bunting and painted francolin.
Open all year round for bird watching and wildlife exploration, Grassland Safari is an ideal one-day trip from Pune to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city into the lap of nature. We recommend you start early to have enough time to explore every corner of this sanctuary. All you have to do is book a slot through their website, after which they will allot timing and a trained guide to help you explore. The Pune Forest Department doesn't provide a vehicle for the safari, so you will have to arrange your four-wheeler for the trip.
LBB-tip: There aren't many food joints in the area, so bringing your food and water along is highly recommended.
