While the plastic ban has been one of the most essential and welcomed moves by Maharashtra government, a number of restaurants in the city did face the initial heat in coping with their takeaway orders. The iconic, seafood restaurant, Kalinga on Erandwane was no different until they came up with a unique solution to all their 'plastic' woes.
Enter: traditional stainless steel lunch boxes to the rescue! Instead of using plastic containers, the hotel management is now using steel lunch boxes for all their delivery orders. The only catch is that the customers will have to pay a deposit of INR 200 against these dabbas. Of course, the amount is refundable on returning the tiffins. The move is also applicable for orders via online portals.
We think this is a great effort by Kalinga towards banning plastic in the state and hope other restaurants come up with similar initiatives too.
