What Is It?

Oktoberfest is a traditional Bavarian folk festival, currently in its 207th year. Celebrated with much merry-making {read: beer} and fanfare, the most authentic version of it in Pune is the Pune Oktoberfest, organised by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce {IGCC}.

Why Should I Go?

This year will be the 10th year celebration of Pune Oktoberfest, and the IGCC is pulling out all the stops. In celebration of German tradition, they’re flying in the official Okroberfest band – The Kirchdorfer, all the way from Munich. There will also be German food available for munching, and of course, Oktoberfestbier! To top it all off, the races will be taking place on Saturday, and Sunday {the Derby day}, from 1pm to 6pm. The event is open to people of all ages; tickets will cost you INR 800 for adults above the legal drinking age, and INR 400 for those under the legal drinking age {below 25yrs} – for all three days of the festival. Book your tickets here. When: 5pm – 10pm on Friday 13th Oct; 12pm – 10pm on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th Oct Where: RWITC Race Course Member’s Enclosure

Anything Else?

There is a smart-casuals dress code at the event during racing hours {until 6pm} – men will not be allowed in with open shoes and short pants. Also, since mobile phones are not allowed during racing hours, you will have to deposit them with the RWITC authorities. If you break these rules, they will fine you.

Pune’s own Independence Brewing Co. is also an official beer provider, brewing three original German beer sorts just for the Oktoberfest!

#LBBTip

If you’d rather skip the races and the rules that go with it – just go for the event from 6.00 pm onwards. Stay tuned to their Facebook Page for current updates.
