This small village in Panchgani is recently declared as the ‘Pustakanche Gaav’ {the village of books} by the Maharashtra Government. 25 artistically decorated aesthetically pleasing locations around the village have been turned into the readers’ hot-spots with the display of books ranging from literature, poetry, religion, women and children, history, environment, folk literature, biographies and autobiographies. If you are an avid reader or just love being in between books here’s where you should be. Each of the 25 locations chosen initially is dedicated to a particular genre of literature. With around 10,000 books to be made available for reading in a village with a population of 10,000, Bhilar has the highest per capita availability of books for any village in the country.
