Bhigwan is at one end of the huge Yashwant Sagar reservoir, forming the backwaters of the Ujain dam. One of the main attractions during the migratory season is the arrival of the pink greater flamingos.

There are two areas where one can see the migratory water birds- 1) Diksal-Parewadi area and 2) Dalaj– Kumbhargaon area. The semi-waste water in this Ujni dam backwater area has built very good wetland based ecosystem.

Any nature lover would surely enjoy this bird paradise of Maharashtra popularly named as Bharatpur of Maharashtra. The village of Kumbhargaon is ideal for bird-watching, and locals offer boat rides to see the birds at close quarters. Apart from this , you can gorge on delicious home cooked
meals and fish curry.

Sandip Nagare, provides for arrangement and accommodation for the seasonal visitors there . He has ample knowledge of birds and comes up with the best way to make this an unforgettable experience. These birds arrive here every year around January-February, but it’s good to give a call to Sandip before visiting & confirm the status.

How Do I Get There?

To reach bhigwan, take the Solapur road and drive for around 95kms {from Hadapsar}. Most of the bird seeings happen around two places , Diksal and Kumbhargaon. The reservoir is dozens of kms long.
