Are you bored of hanging out at the usual Koregaon Park and Balewadi High Street bars that burn several holes in your pocket? I was too. And so, I ventured around Manas Lake, which is on the outskirts of Pune and it was worth it.
It's a bit of a drive outside, but you can plan an evening over a weekend and head out. You'll find several options around Manas Lake where you can lounge with cocktails, bar bites and herbal hookah.
Thalasso is one of the new entrants to the scene and is a lovely space that's inspired by European mansions. So the outside is designed just like that, complete with fake balconies and plants. Upon entering, there is a fountain and a large outdoor seating space. They have indoor seating too, but come on, you'd rather sit out and enjoy the weather. There are Victorian-style lamps around the space and lots of love seats, making it ideal for couples to cosy up when on a date.
The restaurant's bar is fully stocked. We opted for a whisky sour and a gin cocktail, both of which were a little watered down.
The food menu is extensive, offering an array of Indian kebabs, Chindian appetisers and a few continental bites too. You'll mostly find usual suspects here.
We tried their basil chicken, a lovely bite with drinks. It came loaded with veggies, well-cooked chicken and was flavour packed. The potato and cheese croquettes are an apt bite if you're drinking a chilled beer. They came with a spicy dipping sauce and are the perfect bar bite you need - spicy, fried and carby!
While they also serve mains and dessert, we didn't order it as we prefer to eat light while drinking. But they have options like fried rice and manchurian, butter chicken with naan and other options that you'll love.
Overall, an evening at Thalasso isn't a bad option. It doesn't have a lake view, but it gets pretty chilly around here by night during winters. A meal for two will set you back INR 1500 with alcohol. They have parking, offer great and attentive service and is a great date spot.
