Shortcut

Korigad Fort is a historic hill fort, located about 20km south of Lonavala. It's an easy trek and makes for a fun day out with friends.

What Makes It So Awesome?

Being higher than the surrounding valleys, Korigad fort is a great vantage point and offers superb panoramic views. Located around 2.5 hours outside of Pune, you can either drive to the base village - Peth Shahpur - yourself or take local transport from Lonavala. Stone steps line almost the entire way up, and it should take you no longer than 1 hour each way. The bordering wall of the fort is intact, and you can walk the entire perimeter to really soak up the gorgeous views.

There are two 'lakes' and a temple of the fort's patron goddess - Korai Devi - located at the top; as well as some of its original structures, a couple of smaller temples, and the fort's gate. Some of the old bombard cannons from Shivaji Maharaj's era are still present here too - the largest being 'Laxmi tof'. Korigad fort is accessible year-round, and overnight camping is a popular activity here in the summers.

What Could Be Better?

While food is available at the base village, it isn't at the top. We find this a tad bit inconvenient, so remember to carry your own drinking water and extra snacks.

Pro-Tip

Remember to wear sturdy walking shoes, and appropriate, warm rain-proof clothing. We strongly advise you to keep any food or snacks out of sight of the monkeys that you may see on the walk up or at the top of the fort - as they can get aggressive.
