Ten-Second Takeaway

Party season is quickly approaching – first the festivals, then weddings. Keeping up a fancy wardrobe for each and every new event is impossibly expensive, so we’ve searched and found a few places for budget-friendly to moderately-priced ethnic wear.

Jain Bandhu

Situated on old Airport Road, right opposite Yerwada Jail – is inconspicuous Jain Bandhu. We like the variety of sarees available here at very budget-friendly prices. A patterned georgette saree will cost you betwen INR 180 to INR 1190. We really like their bright polyester silk sarees with pretty gold borders for INR 260, and their embroidered chanderi silk sarees priced between INR 790 to INR 1020. The decorative bandhani range starts at INR 600, and authentic style Paithanis start from INR 2000. We love their big, bold prints and plain, bright colours!

Indo-Foreign Stores - Silks & Sarees

Among the oldest saree shops in Pune, is Indo-Foreign Stores’ Silks and Sarees shop on MG Road. Specialising in traditional Indian-wear for all occasions, they have a vast selection of sarees, salwar-kurtas, designer blouses, as well as silks, brocades, stoles and shawls {if you want to accessorize}.

A printed georgette kurti with embellishments on the collar and cuffs starts at INR 2550, and can go up to INR 5000, depending on the style and design. Their art-silk sarees start at INR 395, and cotton silk sarees at INR 1100 onwards. There’s also a big discounted section, from 25% to 60% off on select garments – and their staff are very willing to help you to find the perfect outfit.

Saree Niketan

Saree Niketan in Camp also offers a selection of cotton and synthetic, machine-washable sarees starting from INR 550 – 600 onwards {and can range upto INR 15,000}. At only one location in Camp, you’re sure to find a steal of a deal at this shop if you look carefully!

Westside

Yupp, Westside have really stepped up their game, flaunting some really lovely and affordable ethnic wear. Under their ‘Vark’ label, formal salwar suit sets start at INR 2299, and their ethnic maxi dresses start at INR 3999. Perfect for a mehendi party or even a full-blown wedding reception, we really like their designs, which are available for purchase at their stores across Pune, as well as online – through Tata Cliq.

Babe

Launched in 1992 by Minal Mirchandani, Babe boutique stocks both their own label as well as outsourced designs. From gorgeous salwar suit sets to glam anarkalis, they can cater to all your fashion needs for the festive/wedding season. Priced from Rs. 3500 onwards, they’re a little more expensive than what we’ve listed earlier, but offer a great selection of contemporary Indian styles and designs. You’re sure to find something gorgeous off the rack, but if you don’t, you can always have it tailored in-house!
