Unlike metal with sharper edges, wooden beds hold onto the mattress well, without any slips. If you're keen on getting an Italian style bed, make sure the edges are soft, and won't hurt you. 

A simple rule that you can sustain over time is to use complementing colours for your soft furnishings like your curtains, throws or accent pillows. While accent pillows can be cutesy, make sure to pick just the right number so you enjoy making your bed every morning instead of getting overwhelmed. Items that need laundering less often, like rugs, dhurries and curtains can be used in matching or complementing colours so there's a cohesive look in your bedroom without much effort. If you can't find the exact shades, look for pieces in the same colour family like pastels or neutrals.
