What Makes It Awesome

Pencils have been used by artists as a tool to create many artworks, but Dheeraj Kolla is making pencil itself a piece of artwork. His works on the tips of pencils like carving things from a name to APJ Abdul Kalam will leave you amazed and will make you wonder how he did everything in that miniscule space. And if you’ve ever broken the tip of your pencil by pressing too hard on a page, you can imagine how much care Dheeraj’s artistic practice requires.

Awarded with ‘Pride of Telangana’ and ‘Vajra World Record, the journey of this 25-year-old micro-artist started in 2013. He was in college when he browsed and found this art of lid carving. Initially, it took him hours to do the basics, but with years of practice, now it’s a matter of 30 minutes. His medium of choice can easily break, so he has to be both light and steady-handed. And if you are wondering about the type of pencils, he uses the basic ones. You can check his work here and also, drop orders if you want to get something done. At present, he is taking around four to five orders every month which starts at INR 1,000.
