What Makes It Awesome

Any Peaky Blinders or The Crown fans reading this will agree that horse racing looks super cool! (in fact, it looks hoity-toity in many shows and movies.) But if you are under the impression that it's just for the elite, we come baring good news. Tucked in the streets of Malakpet of Hyderabad Race Course and it's very much open for the public.

History Of The Club

For starters, it's a huge green space with several spots for swimming, water training and exercise tracks. But apart from the top-notch amenities, this club truly boasts a rich history. Okay, where do we start? An infant among the Indian Turn Authorities, The Hyderabad Race Course dates back to over a hundred years. We're talking about the Nizam times, people! Heard of Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai and the events that happen there? The racing at Hyderabad is also said to be at par with evert other center in India. Of course, in the yesteryear these races were typically conducted by resident Englishmen but the standards have remained strong with rules of the Royal Calcutta Turf Club. The city also had its own competition called the Nizam's Cup which would happen during the monsoon. You can image the guest list, Nizams, their kin, friends and so-so's of the region.

Timings And Other Details

Now, that's all about the glitz and glam. Do you want to know if you can experience the races? Yes, you can! There's an entry pass for the events but to join the race club, it's a grand affair. If you want to become a club member and a stand member, there's an application process and you need to be backed by two club members who are entitled to vote. On race days, you can buy the pass and find your place on the stands and bet on the horses, too (through their legitimate methods, of course). If you want to visit the club just as a visitor on normal days, you need to contact the authorities a day before and seek permission. The club is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, so make arrangements to make some horsey friends.

Isn't it fascinating? A nizam-era race course standing proud in the hustle-bustle of the city life?
