Lakdi-ka-Pul is one of the most iconic, and oldest cultural centers of Hyderabad. Before the city’s focus shifted to the newer parts like Hitec City, Lakdi-ka-Pul, along with its neighbouring localities like Nampally, Khairatabad and Abids was a hot-spot. Which is why we've included iconic places that are less than ten minutes from Lakdi-ka-Pul in this guide as well.

While the area currently hosts a lot of travel agencies leading to peak traffic during evening hours, you can still spot the state’s important offices and some of the most renowned hang-out spots through the decades. Head here for an authentic, chill yet culturally rich Hyderabadi experience.

Restaurants and Cafes We Love

Hotel Indu Deluxe (Better Known As MLA Hotel)

With the state assembly at a stone’s throw away, Hotel Indu Deluxe got its famous ‘MLA Hotel’ tag as a lot of MLAs would come here to have their meals during their breaks from assembly sessions. The restaurant is known for its Telugu home-style thalis. Their mutton fry among other meat-based dishes is legendary. Don’t miss their thick-set home-style curds to finish off your meals.

Price: Between INR 500-700 for two.

Hotel Grand

While Hotel Grand isn’t in Lakdi-ka-Pul per se, we recommend taking a two-minute ride to Abids for their yummy biryani. Some locals swear over their taste and quality, and we agree!

Things To Do

Birla Planetarium & Science Museum

Nuclear fission, illusion, magnetism, gravitational pull - all may be boring topics to study in a classroom, but not at Birla Science Museum! This place is a must-visit if you’d like to witness science in action. The several real-life models and games applying concepts of physics and optical illusion will leave you pleasantly surprised and amused.

The Birla Planetarium is a dedicated centre to promote scientific temperament among students and young learners. For the past twenty nine years, the Planetarium has been producing cosmic sky shows on different themes. You can expect to learn about the solar system, black holes and other universal phenomena through these short, thirty minute-long shows that are rated better than the international shows screened in various countries.

Catch A Play Or Concert At Ravindra Bharathi

Ravindra Bharathi is a 60-year-old iconic cultural centre that has hosted folk shows, classical dance shows, art exhibits, literary seminars, book launches, film festivals and world cinema screenings over the decades. With dedicated spaces to host events related to theater, books, film, dance, arts and music, what remains unique about Ravindra Bharathi is its commitment to safekeep various cultures of the world.

The iconic grounds have hosted several poets, artists, dancers, singers and authors of the world. On a typical day, you can expect to enjoy anything from traditional dance shows to international film screenings. There’s never a dull day at Ravindra Bharathi. We recommend checking out their weekly schedule before you pay a visit.

Birla Mandir

Inaugurated in 1976, the Birla Mandir is built on the Naubat Pahad, offering a stunning view of the city, especially the Hussain Sagar lake. It is said that the Hindu temple was built over ten years, and is made entirely of white marble stone from Rajasthan. Birla Mandir is also meant to serve as a meditation annexe, which is why you won’t find any temple bells here, ensuring a peaceful time for visitors.

Head here for a moment of peace amid the hustle and bustle of the city. Visit during sunset for a gorgeous view of Hyderabad. You can also shop for little knick-knacks like bangles and flowers from local vendors on your way up to the temple.
