Us Hyderabadis are known to stick to the classics and opt for familiar cuisines while dining out. So when we heard of a Turkish place making noise for all the good reasons, we decided to check it out. Levant Turkish Restaurant at Banjara Hills has recently had a makeover, introducing a new steak house menu alongside other classics from Levantine cuisine, which include dishes from Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan.
We checked out the spot over dinner, where our meal started off with a steakhouse menu. We picked the chicken and lamb steaks and in came a chef who cut up the steak on the table in front of us which we thought was pretty cool! Both the chefs are believed to have been flown in from Turkey just to introduce Hyderabadis to this new cuisine.
The steak platters came with slices of meat, grilled veggies and a side of boiled corn on the cob, making the dishes super filling and wholesome. If you're craving a rice based dish, we recommend the Zarb that is cooked in traditional Levantine style, underground for 6-7 hours. It is then served on a flambé platter, where the dish is uncovered on the table, only to reveal super succulent meat that literally fell off the bone, along with flavourful rice.
You could also check out the Moroccan Tagine, Leventine Manakish or stick to a classic Hummus platter to nibble on between courses. While Turkish cuisine has some amazing desserts like baklava and the Turkish Milk Cake, we highly recommend the Kunafeh here that instantly sent us into a food coma.
