What Makes It Awesome

Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad is one of the must-visit places in the city, but it's not just for kids. The Nehru Zoological Park is home to free-moving animals and over 100+ rare and exotic species. Firstly, it makes for a great outdoorsy day if you want to break free from the walls, and each visit feels like a new experience. When we were at the zoo, we spotted giraffes, playful hippos, a group of rhinos, lions near watering holes, and so many more. The whole park is spread over 380 acres, making it one of the largest animal parks in the country. We love that they have taken up conservation and breeding programs and is also the first zoo in the country to work with the Laboratory for Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES).

Start making notes because we’re going to break it down for you. Our first recommendation would be the lion safari. It’s a chance for you to see the big cats up close, and it’s an experience to cherish. Then move to elephant rides to feel the strength of the gentle giants. There’s also a tiger area and a dedicated place for panthers and jaguars.

Spot sloths, bison, baboons, and chimps are also in their habitats. You can then head to the nocturnal houses to see species like bats and exotic frogs that sleep during the day and are active in the dark. While leaving the nocturnal house, don’t forget to look at the many snake species and crocodiles in their reptile enclosure. After all the roaming around, you can plan a picnic lunch in the garden or grab yourself a plate from the canteen. They sell water and some munchies to keep you fueled.

Pro Tip

Yes, with so many things to do, it’s obvious that there’s going to be a lot of walking around. We suggest you lace up in your walking shoes, but if that gets too much as well, you can cover some of the Nehru Zoo on a train. You can also hop on a battery car or rent a cycle.
