Docks On Port To Prison Cells: You've Got To Hit Up These Themed Restaurants In Hyderabad

One of the oldest restaurants in Hyderabad, Ohri’s Gufaa is a cave-themed space with dim lighting, and waiters dressed in a hunter’s outfit. If you’ve ever wondered what it must feel like to dine in a cave, like in the stone age, head to this place in Basheer Bagh and teleport to the times when tribals painted stone walls and lived in jungles. The seating is made from bamboo, and you can also find wall hangings of tribal people on the walls, the lighting although sombre is soothing and just enough for you to know what you’re eating, and they play 90s music that brings about a certain air of nostalgia. The mocktails at this place are really good and their talwar kebab is so delicious that it will melt in your mouth.

Based on a Telugu movie, Mayabazaar is a restaurant in Kavuri Hills that is quite popular for its ambience. With posters of the iconic film, its iconic moments framed, and music to set the mood — it has a minimalistic but impressive approach to theme-based dining. The food here is great both in terms of quality and quantity, and this place also has value for money. They have another branch in Karkhana with a similar theme, but it has a more rustic and dhaba like vibe to it.

This vegetarian-only restaurant follows the theme of a prison with the waiters dress up like prisoners and the manager, like a jailer. The ambience too resembles a jail with its exposed brick walls and prison gates. Luckily, however, the food here is nothing like the bland food that inmates have to eat, but rather a good variety of Continental, Italian, North Indian, and Chinese dishes. They have three types of Sizzlers here, and we recommend the Mexican Sizzler.

The ambience of Dock Forty Five resembles a dock on a port in a ship. You can find elements like lifebuoys, compass, boat pipes in its decor and come evening, the place lights up with bright colours, and fortunately isn’t too crowded. The food here is nothing extraordinary, but you can pick this place to have a couple of drinks with your squad.

Bollywood fanatics, if you haven’t been to Ohri’s 70mm on Necklace Road yet, we are judging you! Enter red carpet, framed posters of legendary Hindi cinema (From DDLJ to Mughal-E-Azam, they’ve got it all), bright yellow lights hanging from the ceiling, and graffiti of your beloved superstars looking at you is what makes this place spectacular. We recommend going here for a buffet as it is pocket-friendly, and making a reservation in advance as this place is usually crowded.

This place in Chandrayangutta is designed in true Arabian fashion with tents, and seating on lavish carpets with pillows. The tables too have intricate designs on them, and you get to eat authentic Arab food that is apparently mouth-watering, and the Mandi here is worthy of all the praise. However, be prepared to travel all the way to Barkas to experience this Arabian theme, and the service could be a little slow too. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

This highway themed place in Jubilee Hills is a popular breakfast spot amongst city folks. It has various outlets serving juice and coffee to South Indian and Continental food too. The decor includes props like gas stations, driveways, wall art designed to look like cars, graffiti to resemble roads and number plates on tables – the ambience is spot on. The theme makes the place look sort of like a drive-in, but there is indoor as well as outdoor seating and the food is pocket-friendly. While here, try out The Elvis from their all-day breakfast menu which is a layer of peanut butter and banana grilled to crispy goodness.

Beaming yellow walls and glossy blue doors and windows, Beach House in Madhapur is where you can escape from Hyderabad and step right into Goa. On Wednesdays, Beach House throws candle-light dinners where you and your SO can dip your feet in the white sand but if live music is more your thing, Saturdays are your bae. You can expect cheap alcohol and spicy starters that go super well with your drinks. Just like in Goa!
