Aisles & Aisles Of Books
You might have often passed this bookstore in Punjagutta, which is an extension of MR Book Centre, without realising the treasures it holds. Hold your breath as you walk past the aisles of Van Gogh’s collections {priced at INR 240 and upwards} and cookbooks that can bring out the Gordon Ramsay in you. The unfussy, nonchalant atmosphere of the store lends to the casual vibe of the store where the books are arranged haphazardly, stacked in every possible corner. Here, you might acquaint yourself with books you’ve only heard of, but never held before. But don’t forget to check out old magazines and books on architecture that are rarely found in the city. Dust the hardbound Nancy Drews and Hardy Boys {priced at INR 50 each} and treat yourself with one. Play a game or two of treasure hunt to discover books by Kiran Desai, Anuradha Roy, Jay Asher, and John Green.
Good Love At INR 120
Towards the end of the store, there is an enormous section left out for books-by-weight. Here, you will find rare, unused, and old stocks of books that are spread on long tables, in no particular order. Comics and philosophy rub shoulders with each other while romance and religion are spotted having a tête-à-tête. If you’re interested in learning Japanese or any new skill, you have plenty of choices. Choicest of poetry books are strewn across the tables, so we urge you to look beyond Rupi Kaur and fetch something more poignant. You might spot a Haruki Murakami or two if you are lucky enough, but otherwise, stock up on Sweet Valley High {we’re sure you can grab at least 10-11 copies in a kilo}, Gossip Girl or Sex and the City. We also found a number of books by Tom Holt {Or K.J. Parker as it’s his pseudonym}. While we are guilty of walking home with a few kilos {And this time, not around the waist}, we’ve heard the store brings in at least a lakh of books are sourced from Australia, and the US too. So, we’re making plans to visit again.
