These days, you’d be hard-pressed to find a place in Hyderabad that doesn’t feature a quaint little crêperie, serving up super-thin pancakes in a range of sweet and savoury forms. Crêpes originated in a region known as Brittany – “Bretagne” in French, which lies in the northwestern region of France sometime around the 12th Century. Cometh 1840, the folks in & around Paris kicked off with shops & restaurants with crepes as the main star dish in their menu. After the voyage to Paris, the crêpe was exported to every region in France. At the turn of the 20th century, Crepes whether in sweet or savoury format, have become a standard in any given French dessert cafe.
To take the concept ahead, The Crepe Cafe, originated in Australia in the year 2001, part of the BFC Retail Group, is a well-established brand in multiple countries now, serving traditional savoury & sweet crepes, waffles, pancakes, churros, omelettes & french toast. This brand is a new entrant in the Hyderabad F&B sector, with its franchise outlet opened in Serilingampally, aims at providing the patrons with fresh & healthy breakfast meals. From the savoury spread, we tried the Aussie Sunrise & Tandoori Chicken crepe, wherein the Aussie sunrise had a generous amount of filling with mushroom, chicken ham tossed in cheese & eggs; onto the Tandoori Chicken one - a great twist on savoury crepes with tandoori chicken as the main component along with bell peppers, tomato, spinach, cheese & BBQ sauce. Next up we had Spanish Omelette, which had only stuffing of potato & cheese however the presence of bell pepper, mushroom, tomato was totally missing which can be looked at by the Team.
From the salad, I tried the Ceaser Salad, comprising of lettuce, tomatoes, chicken, croutons & Ceaser dressing with cheese, however, the creamy dressing was missing which again needs to be worked upon. Coming to the classic French Toast served with a sunny side up was with average taste. Among the sweet crepes, we tried out Creme Dessert Crepe comprising of strawberry, mixed berries with vanilla custard & served along with whipped cream, is a great pick from the menu for the all sweet tooths out there. Coming to the beverages, all of them can be placed average as they certainly need improvement to match up with their crepe standards.
