Irani Cafe Quirks
SodaBottleOpenerWala never ceases to amaze us with its quirky food festivals. Whether it is the Parsi Bhonu Festival or the Gyarah Handi Festival, the foodies are always in for a treat. The 11 varieties of haleem got us curious and we decided to check out the festival that’s happening for the second consecutive year. The moment we stepped in, we spotted a stall right outside the restaurant – this stall was adorned with festive lights and decked with 11 handis, giving it a traditional haleem stall look. If you’re interested in a windy experience while eating your haleem, opt for the seating near this stall. We love the ambiance of SodaBottleOpenerWala a little too much and settled for their indoor seating. Grooving into the music, we browsed through the haleem menu that has three kinds of vegetarian haleem and eight kinds of non-vegetarian haleem with duck and turkey too.
Oh So Many
We tried out the Persian Mutton Haleem, Prawn Haleem along with Vegetable Haleem, Roasted Corn Haleem, and Persian Vegetable Haleem. What came was an array of dishes, well-presented, and served with princely amounts of ghee, fried onions {just the right crunch}, and a dash of lime. While the Prawn Haleem didn’t appease us much, we fell in love with the Persian Mutton Haleem – authentic, fewer spices, and just the right amount of flavour. We cannot recommend this enough. In fact, its vegetarian counterpart – Persian Vegetable Haleem was equally finger-licking good. Plus, if you’re a vegetarian who has never tried haleem, this one is close enough to the authentic haleem. The Roasted Corn Haleem is yet another exciting take on haleem by SodaBottleOpenerWala and we loved its crispy nuances. This too was topped with fried onions, but it was the roasted corn topping that made all the difference. End your meal with an Irani Falooda and call it a night.
