Ramayan

Yep. There was a time when this was one of the only shows to be aired on television on our beloved and good old DD channel. History buffs, give this one a shot. Sure, you might be wondering, are people even watching this? Well, you might want to rethink that. Data shows, the first week recorded a whopping 17 crore viewers. Woah, woah!  After having a successful comeback on DD National, it is going to be re-run on Star Plus.

Mahabharat

Mahabharata on DD Bharati is as good as storytelling gets. With stories, side mentions and so many characters, you're truly in for a ride. Mahabharat also shows Krishna's birth story and a chunk of it also portrays the Bhagavad Gita, so if you're not into reading the book, the show will help.

Buniyaad

Directed by the legendary Ramesh Sippy and Jyoti Sarup, Buniyaad is a classic drama based on the aftermath of the country's partition. Haveliram's struggle as a poor man holding up an entire household on his shoulders, Buniyaad defines family duties and togetherness in a whole new way. This is definitely a binge-watch, with 105 episodes of brilliantly written script. You can also watch it online here.

Chanakya

A fictionalized version of Chanakya Tales, it shows the life of the brilliant economist, strategist and political theorist Chanakya. He was the advisor of the royal king Chandragupta Maurya of the Maurya Dynasty. Easy to understand and a rare show packed with plenty of historic references, you should give it a try.

Byomesh Bakshi

Investigative shows of this time are nothing when compared to Byomesh Bakshi. The outstanding screenplay, direction and interesting stories with no crime-based rubbish (we're thinking of the same show here), Byomesh Bakshi packs in a delightful experience of tea-time and chill.
