LBB is back with another #LBBWeekendOfAwesome and this time, it is about taking a walk through history in Moula Ali. This is one of Hyderabad's most well-known spots for beautiful sunsets. The shrine, however, is also often mistaken for a dargah or a mausoleum, which it is not. As the name suggests, the place is a shrine, dedicated to Imam Ali, (who was the son-in-law of Prophet Mohammed), and has roots in the Qutb Shahi dynasty, which founded our city in 1591.
Not only does Moula Ali predate Hyderabad, a special person from our city rests at its foothills. Maha Laqa Bai Chanda, a 19th century poet and courtesan, who was quite famous during the time of Nizam Ali Khan (2nd Nizam of the Asaf Jahi dynasty), rests in peace in her maqbara (grave).
So come and join Yunus Lasania, a journalist by profession and a pucca Hyderabadi by heart, for a walk to listen to the stories of the origin of Moula Ali, the Golconda dynasty (Qutb Shahi) and, also to understand how a 19th century poet held herself against the entire society in a patriarchal city that was Hyderabad. A journalist by profession and a pucca Hyderabadi by heart, Yunus Lasania hosts heritage walks every weekend.
