We first heard of Luna Books on Instagram, with many reading enthusiasts in the city gushing about their space and collection. Nestled in the bylanes of Jubilee Hills, the bookstore is housed in a quiet and inviting space that feels like someone's personal library. The dark wood furniture with vintage elements like a cool (and functioning) retro landline phone caught our eye immediately. The entrance has a huge table with a curation with books that the founders handpick every month.
Luna Books is set up by a sister duo from Hyderabad who found the dearth of good independent stores in the city, unlike Bangalore or Mumbai where the reading culture is still thriving. Frequenting iconic stores like Walden growing up, to now finding that indie stores are on the decline, the duo hailing from a family of voracious readers decided to take it upon themselves to revive the reading culture in Hyderabad.
In an age filled with urgency and self help books that claim to push your life an inch closer to perfection, Luna Bookstore cuts the pretence and makes way for the magic of discovering and reading. We found a variety of genres here, from children's fiction, non-fiction, thriller, romance to light reads. They have some collectibles if you'd like to get full sets of books you've loved. There's a section dedicated to queer authors as well.
The bookstore aims to highlight underrated talented writers who deserve a spot in your personal collection. We promise you will discover at least five authors you haven't heard of previously. Luna has also played host to friendship meet-cutes, with strangers animatedly exchanging numbers after learning that they love the same books.
